Working student Anaïs

From 1962 till 1966 I studied at the state university of Gent. Between myself and the vast majority of my fellow students there was an enormous difference.
Most of them were leading a comfortable life while I was a working student. With my (deceased) friend Renaat Willockx we founded the first working student trade union in Gent and organized the first action.
We wanted to earn 0,60 € instead of 0,50 € per hour.
We won.
Besides working as a waiter and as an assistant to a professor who wanted to help a married student, my most lucrative job was working as a fashion model. Compared to the 0.60 € I was earning per hour as a waiter, the manufacturers of leisure wear paid me a whopping 25 € per hour.
Nowadays (june 2011) my granddaughter is a working student too. She is selling ice cream and snacks on the beach in Southern France. The French news channel TF1 devoted 2 minutes to her.
Have a look at Anaïs pulling her cart and admire her hat on the following link:

A very proud granddad Bruno.
